Implemented by New Bridges, this project aimed to increase women’s participation in local decision-making processes in the Municipality of Ura Vajgurore. The initiative focused on empowering women with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to engage in local governance and advocate for their rights.
A key achievement of the project was the establishment of the Women Advisory Council (WAC), bringing together 20 women from four administrative units of the municipality. Through a series of trainings on women’s rights, citizen participation, and advocacy, council members strengthened their capacity to engage with local institutions and influence community priorities.
The project also organized awareness-raising activities with community members and municipal staff, promoting gender equality, women’s rights, participation in local decision-making, and the prevention of domestic violence. In addition, the Women Advisory Council monitored municipal council meetings, developed recommendations, and advocated for greater attention to issues affecting women and girls.
By fostering collaboration between women, local authorities, and community stakeholders, the project contributed to stronger civic participation and greater visibility of women’s perspectives in local governance.
